Happy Birthday, “Andante” Sylvia Tan

15 Apr

Sylvia Tan, popularly known as Andante, turn 23 today (April 15). I first came across during the X-Factor Model Search held on July 23, 2011 at the skating rink of Sunway Pyramid shopping mall. At a glance, I thought I saw model-turned-actress Karena Teo had walked past me, which I thought was weird. That was because this “Karena” seems shorter than normal. On a closer look, I realised this gorgeous girl isn’t Karena at all but someone who looks like her. I am not alone in this as many of my friends, as well as Andante’s had commented her similarity to Karena’s.

Managed to discover some of the early days’ photos of Hong Kong’s reigning Queen of Cantopop, Sammi Cheng, while going through my stuff in the midst of shifting to the new place.

Elise Tan – long hair photogenic beauty

28 Nov

Meet Elise Tan, a photography enthusiast, and a fan of both Digital Camera Malaysia and Digital SLR Photography magazines. And she hopes to own a Canon EOS DSLR one day. Oh yes, she is also a part-time model. Currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Tan hails from Kemaman in Terengganu, a state on the eastern side of Peninsular Malaysia.

Happy Birthday, Linda Chen!!!

24 Nov

First met the lovely Linda Chen on May 12, 2004. She was one of the guests on Jie Ling’s 21st birthday celebration.

From that night, my impression on her was this: she’s only keen about my expertise in photography, as told to her previously by Jie Ling. Nothing more.

That’s perfectly normal to me. And expected. That’s how I promoted my photography expertise anyway – from the photos I shot, and let the results speak for themselves.

I think our total conversation that night lasted less than 5 words. We didn’t talk much either. I was too busy shooting Jie Ling’s birthday party. Oh yes, she was in the same college with Miss Astro 2003 Vivien Yeo, and both of them hailed from Johor Baru.

Later that year, China Press newspaper had published an unconfirmed news story about Chen been one of those “MIA” in Penang during the tsunami swept. She was supposed to attend one event there as a newly-crowned beauty queen, which she didn’t go. But while people were trying to establish her whereabouts, our maverick beauty was sound asleep back home in Petaling Jaya, and had no idea about all the fuss.

The photo above was shot a few weeks prior to the 2004 tsunami. It was intended to be used as a cover shot to promote the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II in Advanced IMAGES magazine. But the idea of using her didn’t go thru, as Suzanne Lee, an up-and-coming photojournalist,  was chosen for that role.

Chen got married early this year.

Giselle Chia – 7-11 Birthday Girl

07 Nov

7th November is also written as 7-11 in some cases. And when it is written this way, the first thing that comes to mind is 7-Eleven, as in the 24-hour convenient store found on most street corners in a city, town or the local neighbourhood.

Guess what? I have a friend whose birthday is on this date – she is none other than Giselle Chia. She is a part-time model. I first came to know her in November 2008 for a Canon EF Lenses project I was shooting for Velocity Media Sdn Bhd – publisher of the Malaysian edition of Digital Camera Magazine. And in October 2009, she secured 1st-runner-up position in the inaugural Lumix Star Search contest that presented by Panasonic Malaysia and organised by DCIM Show event company.

Come to think of it, I planned to shoot her inside one of the 7-11 outlets previously but the idea yet to take off. Yep, she agreed to that idea but both of us were quite busy with our schedules to actually sit down and plan the shoot. Maybe next month.

Happy Birthday to you, Giselle!!!
