Loren Angelo talks about the Audi SQ7’s role in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War

02 May

Audi had supercharged the relationship between vehicles and movie superheroes by supplying the wheels to Tony Stark in the first Iron Man film in 2008. In Marvel Entertainment’s ongoing Captain America: Civil War, already showing in Asia, Europe and South American markets a week ahead of the USA’s opening on May 6, Audi is once again provides superhero transportation, but it’s the SQ7 taking center stage.

The first Iron Man featured an Audi R8, representing the peak of the carmaker’s technology, engineering and performance, and matching Stark’s technological acumen. The relationship between hero and machine was a perfect fit for the brand.

In the next two movies in the Iron Man franchise, Stark upped his game with the R8 Spyder and the electrically powered R8 e-tron – models also at the cutting edge of Audi performance capabilities, with race-proven technology and systems.

While Stark also appears in Captain America: Civil War in the all-new Audi R8 V10 plus Coupe supercar, the climactic scene is a chase in which Captain America, played by Chris Evans, is behind the wheel of an SQ7.

Loren Angelo, director of marketing for Audi of America, said he thinks the SQ7 is ideal, because of its performance capabilities and technological sophistication, for the role of whisking Captain America through a spectacular scene in the film .

“It’s perfect to put our brand into these settings and be able to demonstrate how Audi is a component of the action and excitement that the Avengers represent,” Angelo said. “Whether it’s the SQ7 or A4 or R8, the brand is part of the story. Audiences see the four rings, and consumers have associated them with blockbuster movie action. The Avengers represent high-level technology, and Audi is the vehicle that carries them into the action as they are saving the world.”

Audi also is celebrating the SQ7’s role in the movie with its own television advertisement. In the longer, exclusive digital video called “The Chase,” a family in a Q7 has an unsuspecting role in the pursuit scene.

“It was a unique opportunity to play off one of the critical scenes in the movie,” Angelo said. “And we were able to release unique footage in our ad. It demonstrates how the Q7 can actually perform in every single challenge that’s thrown at it.”

19 Apr

These days, with the help of virtual reality and 360-degree videos, you can get one step closer to actually being at those places and in those moments.

Google first launched support for 360-degree video in March 2015. From musicians to athletes to brands, creators have done some incredible things with this technology. Now, they’ll be able to do even more to bring fans directly into their world, with 360-degree live streaming and spatial audio. And after years of live streaming Coachella for fans around the world who can’t attend the festival, this year we’re bringing you the festival like never before by live streaming select artist performances in 360 degrees this weekend.

Starting today, we’re also launching spatial audio for on-demand YouTube videos. Just as watching a concert in 360-degrees can give you an unmatched immersive experience, spatial audio allows you to listen along as you do in real life, where depth, distance and intensity all play a role. Try out this playlist on your Android device.

To make sure all creators can tell awesome stories with virtual reality, Google has been working with companies across the industry. VideoStitch and Two Big Ears are software companies, compatible with 360-degree live streams and spatial audio, respectively, on YouTube that are available today and more will be available soon. Google will also make 360-degree live streaming and spatial audio technologies available at all YouTube Space locations around the globe, so you can take it for a spin.

What’s exciting most about 360-degree storytelling is that it lets us open up the world’s experiences to everyone. Students can now experience news events in the classroom as they unfold. Travelers can experience faraway sites and explorers can deep-sea dive, all without the physical constraints of the real world. And today’s dream of going to a football game or a concert can access those experiences firsthand, even if they’re far away from the court. What were once limited experiences are now available to anyone, anywhere, at any time.

Zhiny Ooi Wins Miss Astro 2013 Title

02 Nov

CROWD favourite Zhiny Ooi from Alor Setar, Kedah was crowned as the 2013 Miss Astro/Chinese International today, beating 9 other finalists for the title. The event was telecast live over Astro’s Wah Lai Toi channel, and was held for the second time in an outdoor setting – at the carpark of Zebra Square, a venue normally used for fashion shows and car launches in Kuala Lumpur. She also won the subsidiary titles of Miss Body Beautiful and Miss Photogenic. Last year’s Miss Astro winner, Denise Camilia Tan, also won the Miss Photogenic subsidiary title on her way to winning the title.

She’s also the first crowd’s and home audience’s favourite finalist to win the coveted title as previous contestants in the pageant did not sync with what the judges had decided.

The rising popularity of the annual pageant over the past 10 years mean the event has been plagued with the various absurdity that fame and hypes have bestowed upon. Among them were print and online media have been cast aside in preference over “citizen journalists” and news photographers were deemed too “average-looking” to be seen in the background during the live telecast period to the extent where they could cover the event was strictly restricted!

Equally average-looking RELA members were then stationed at those areas vacated by the media photographers to ensure none come back to occupy the space later!

1st runner-up went to 24-year old Fancy Goh, who hails from Nibong Tebal, Penang while the 2nd runner-up is Erica Tan, 22. 3rd and 4th runner-ups are Carol, 22, and Angelica, 25. Carol also won the subsidiary title of Best Talent while finalist#5 Roselind won for “Best Smile” (don’t ask) and finalist #10 won Miss Friendship.

TGV Cinemas Goes Fully Digital with 3D-X @ Setiawalk Mall in Puchong.

27 Nov

TGV Cinemas Sdn Bhd (TGV Cinemas) led the way to the future for exhibitors and cinema operators in Malaysia with the launch of its new Digital 3D projection system called 3D-X with the exclusive premiere of Ang Lee’s first 3D film, Life of Pi at the spanking new 50,923 sq ft TGV Cinemas SetiaWalk in Puchong.

However, all the hypes and expectation of the new 3D-X projection fell flat in front of vast audience of the media and invited guests as technical glitches put paid to the planned screening of the movie in all of its 3D glory. The audience was later relocated to other halls to watch Lee’s movie that are only capable of screening movies in Digital 2D format.

This launch also signifies the theatre’s progressive transition from 35 mm film projection to digital cinema projection which is expected to be fully completed by January 2013. Apart from delivering unmatched brightness, sharpness and superior 3D images, with 3D-X, TGV Cinemas is now capable of displaying high-definition content – 2K, 4K and 3D feature films, documentaries and alternative content.

“The innovation found in today’s digital cinema technology to greatly improve the movie-going experience makes the film-to-digital conversion a top priority for TGV Cinemas. With the 3D-X roll-out, TGV Cinemas can now offer the best in digital cinematic experience in 3D,” explained Kenny Wong, CEO of TGV Cinemas.

The new cinema at SetiaWalk is the 20th TGV outlet and is located in the Puchong vicinity. The opening of a new cinema is timely as it addresses the growing need of a cinema exhibitor in the developing neighbourhood which extends to Subang and Shah Alam. Cinema-goers can catch their favourite movies without needing to travel to high traffic areas in other parts of the Klang Valley.

The 3D glasses needed for viewing movies at the 3D-X hall are disposable, with the audience able to bring back them home instead of returning at the end of the movie as compared to conventional and IMAX 3D formats. Surprisingly, the 3D-X glasses are fully compatible with LG’s Cinema 3D TVs and monitors although it is not certain whether the latter’s 3D glasses will work the same on the former.

TGV SetiaWalk brings a whole new dimension to the cinema experience for Malaysians as it includes the very best of comfort and digital cinema experience. The new cinema is home to a Beanieplex, which has comfortable cushy beanbag seats that come in pairs, and eight other cinema halls all equipped with the latest digital projection system.

Movie seating at TGV SetiaWalk is one of the features not to be missed. The stadium-like seating provides cinema-goers an exceptional vantage point inside the cinema halls directed to the screen. This unique positioning of plush seats is paired with wider leg room that guarantees comfort throughout the duration of a movie. Setting new benchmarks in the cinema industry, TGV Cinemas is more than just a cinema exhibitor. TGV SetiaWalk is also another venue for hosting corporate and private events. Equipped with two function rooms and a classy foyer, Malaysians can expect one-of-a-kind-event experiences at TGV Cinemas.

“Cinema-goers constantly demand for a change of environment whilst watching a movie. The combination of high technology and unique experience are the essentials to provide a value-added cinema experience. With the distinctive features at SetiaWalk, our patrons are now able to experience the full potential of a movie screening with crystal clear image and sound and a comfortable ambience.

“We are in the business of entertainment and entertainment is all about engaging the emotional experience of the audience. As this is also a natural part of our business, TGV Cinemas is always at the forefront in ensuring Malaysians get to experience new and innovative measures as they step foot into our cinemas. With the technology enhancements and upgrades, all our cinema patrons can look forward to a slew of exciting blockbuster movies lined up next year with a cinematic experience unlike any other,” Wong added.
