Toshiba’s 1066x Exceria Pro CompactFlash Won’t Be Available in South East Asia

12 Jun

Leading CompactFlash card manufacturers SanDisk, Lexar and Transcend will be thrilled to know that Toshiba’s acclaimed Exceria Pro series of CF memory cards will not be made available for sale in the South East Asia region comprising the 10-nation ASEAN countries as well as India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Himalaya and Nepal.

Toshiba’s new line of high performance  CompactFlash memory cards, the Exceria PRO series,  announced with much fanfare by the company recently, will not be available for sale in the South East Asia region, according to a spokesperson during an official launch of the latest line-up of Toshiba’s Ultrabooks, Hybrid laptops and Qosmio notebooks in Kuala Lumpur.

“The Exceria Pro cards are for a niche market, and the global market nowadays is gearing towards SDHC/XC variety, and this can be seen with the number of notebook brands offering built-in SD card slot rather than ExpressCard and CFast types that are meant for CompactFlash. As such, the sales volume will be small and we don’t see the Exceria doing well in this segment for this region”, said the spokesperson.

However, the spokesperson was rendered speechless when it was pointed out there must be a reason for Toshiba willing to enter the highly-competitive segment for CompactFlash and having made an official statement that it intends to be the market leader within 3 years while competing against the existing brands.

The Exceria Pro’s initial line-up of 16GB, 32GB, 64GB cards offers the world’s highest level of read and write speeds. Exceria Pro CF cards are designed to meet the demands  of the high-end DSLR market, including high resolution image capture, sustained  continuous shooting, HD video recording and high speed data transfers to other devices. The Exceria Pro CF cards integrate  Toshiba’s high performance NAND flash memory and specially developed dedicated firmware.  They achieve a read speed of 160MB/s and write speed of 150MB/s,  the highest level yet reported.

Toshiba’s CF cards are compliant with the Compact Flash Association (CFA) standard CompactFlash Specification Revision 6.1 and are compatible with the UDMA7 high-speed interface, ensuring they can maximize the full performance of high-end DSLRs.

The  Exceria Pro CF cards are compatible with the latest “Video  Performance Guarantee Profile 2” standard, VPG-65. VPG-65 secures Full HD video  capture streams at a minimum write speed of 65MB/s for compatible host devices  and recording media. VPG-65 enables 4K resolution (a digital movie file format  with horizontal resolution of approx. 4,000 pixels and vertical resolution of  approx. 2,000 pixels) movie shooting and high quality Full HD video capture at  high frame rates with no dropped frames.
