Pedrosa Wins Aragon MotoGP, Lorenzo 2nd and Dovizioso 3rd

In a thrilling race at the Gran Premio Iveco de Aragón it was Repsol Honda Team’s Dani Pedrosa who took a dominant victory under sunny skies at his home race ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso.

Yamaha Factory Racing’s Lorenzo got the holeshot ahead of Pedrosa, with Yamaha’s Ben Spies in tow. The first two laps were not good for the Ducati team, as Valentino Rossi touched the rear wheel of Repsol Honda’s Jonathan Rea, with the Italian forced to run off. This was followed by a big crash form Nicky Hayden, who was violently thrown over the advertising boards in Turn 16, after failing to slow down on time. He received instant medical attention and was later declared ok by the medical centre, yet has been given a neck brace and will undergo more precautionary checks to rule out internal injuries.

Lap four saw Pedrosa close in on Lorenzo’s rear wheel, as Avintia Blusens’ David Salom had to retire from the race. Meanwhile LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl took Spies for third, yet crashed out a few turns later as he lost the front pushing too hard. This left the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 duo of Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso to hunt down the American for a spot on the podium. It took Pedrosa until lap seven to make his move on Lorenzo, taking the lead for the first time.

On lap nine Lorenzo had a big wobble giving Pedrosa a bigger gap at the front, as Rossi was making his way up through the pack. With 13 laps left, Crutchlow ran wide coming onto the home straight, letting Dovizioso into fourth. Six laps later Pedrosa had pulled out a gap of over four seconds at the front, as Dovizioso made his way past Spies, with Crutchlow probing the inside line of the American, but to no avail.

The Brit was however not to be deterred and got past with five laps to go, immediately setting his sights on his Italian teammate. At the same time an entertaining battle for 13th ensued between Paul Bird Motorsport’s James Ellison and Avintia’s Yonny Hernandez. A lap later Rossi’s day took another bad turn as he ran wide through the gravel, but retained eighth place.

The Tech 3 pair provided  a thrilling last couple of laps fighting for the final podium spot, with the Brit desperately looking for a way past. In some hard passing where the two went fairing-to-fairing Crutchlow was altering his line in numerous corners to get past the Italian who was defending aggressively.

In the end it was Pedrosa who crossed the finish line first over six seconds ahead of second placed Lorenzo, with Dovizioso taking his sixth podium this year. Pedrosa has now cut the championship gap to Lorenzo to 33 points. Crutchlow came in a close fourth, with San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Álvaro Bautista, Rea, Rossi, and Cardion AB Racing’s Karel Abraham completing the top nine.  Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaró came in tenth as top CRT in tenth.

Lorenzo Edges Pedrosa for Aragon MotoGP Pole, Crutchlow 3rd

29 Sep

In a dry qualifying session that proved thrilling until the end at the Gran Premio Iveco de Aragón it was Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo who snatched a close-fought pole position for tomorrow’s race ahead of Dani Pedrosa and Cal Crutchlow.

After nothing but wet sessions so far, Lorenzo put in a strong performance in the dry with a time just under the mid 1.49s, which was sufficient to oust Repsol Honda Team’s Pedrosa into second on the grid, who did well to recover from an early crash. Rounding out the front row is Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Cal Crutchlow, who despite taking a tumble in the wet this morning, looked certain to take pole until the final minutes when the Spanish duo pounced.

Yamaha’s Ben Spies heads the second row in fourth, after the American put in another strong performance, which he will undoubtedly look to carry over into tomorrow’s race. Alongside him in fifth is LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl, who was fastest out of the blocks in qualifying, yet could not maintain the pace of the factory machines and Crutchlow’s satellite Yamaha. Sixth place is occupied by Tech 3’s Andrea Dovizioso, with the Italian almost seven tenths off his British teammate.

Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner stand-in Jonathan Rea continued his improvement in form as he leads the third row in seventh place, seeming more and more comfortable on the factory Honda. To his right, Ducati Team’s Valentino Rossi starts in eighth, with the Italian not finding the pace he displayed two weeks ago in Misano, and suffering a front-end fold half way through the session.

His teammate Nicky Hayden qualified in ninth, after having also crashed in the final minutes, in front of Pramac Racing Team’s Héctor Barberá. Top CRT performer was Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaró, who got within 1.7s of the top time and beat San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Álvaro Bautista, who was clearly struggling with his satellite RC213V. Avintia Blusens’ Yonny Hernandez fell at turn 14, the same place as Pedrosa, but like the other crashers was able to walk away.

Improved sharpening — The new Detail slider adds control over the sharpening process by feathering or softening the sharpening halos.

BlackBerry 10 Ready for the Future

27 Sep

During the keynote session at the BlackBerry Jam Americas, in San Jose, California,  BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins clearly demonstrated that RIM is aligned in delivering the vision for BlackBerry 10 to a global audience of partners and developers.

According to Heins, “We are at the start of a new era in mobile computing. We are expanding beyond traditional mobile communications. And we want to leverage what you do, and give you an expanded platform to build upon.”

At the core of BlackBerry 10 is the idea of Flow. Flow allows users to move easily from task to task. It allows the user to check in on conversations, wherever they may be. It doesn’t get in the way. Gone are home buttons and the need to exit an app to open a new one. BlackBerry 10 is designed to make users more productive and more efficient.

With BlackBerry 10, RIM is expanding their leadership in communications, NFC, mobile social media, as well as collaboration in the enterprise. As an example, their current position in social communications, BlackBerry Messenger, a platform used by 60 million people, is going to grow and flourish with BlackBerry 10. There are also over 60 million BlackBerry users on Facebook and tens of millions using other social platforms. BlackBerry 10 will bring all these conversations together in the BlackBerry Hub allowing users to easily move from conversation to conversation with the swipe of one finger.

Driving Innovation Behind BlackBerry 10: You

After thousands of hours talking to users: developers and customers, it is clear what works, what frustrates today’s user, and what RIM is able to do to make the mobile experience more enjoyable. BlackBerry customers are all about action and it is no surprise that there is a need for something easier, more efficient – something that helps get things done.

“BlackBerry users will be able to do more, enjoy more and live more,” said Heins. “We have elegantly woven together  mobile life by bringing together  communications, the internet, people and events, multimedia, and social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare and even more, to give users immediate access to the information they need and want.  And then we gave them the ability to take action on that information.”

Carriers and developers alike are excited about BlackBerry 10. Heins and the leadership team have been on tour around the globe, meeting with carriers and partners. He said the response has been outstanding.

“Developers, more than anybody, have embraced the power and potential of BlackBerry 10,” said Heins.  “We are just a few short months away. BlackBerry 10 is on track. By showing the world how BlackBerry 10 unites elegant devices with a flowing user experience that is based on a future-proof platform and strong alignment with carriers we are making believers out of our partners. “

He continued: “we understand that the BlackBerry platform was not always easy to develop for, but those days are gone. You told us what you needed, we listened and we made changes.  You stuck with us and we thank you for your support and your enthusiasm. We will succeed together.

Since taking over as CEO, Heins knew there was a need for change. He’s made the decisions and taken the steps to build a strong future for BlackBerry. “Our amazing executive leadership team includes marketing, telecommunications and technology veterans from around the world,” he said. “These teams and all of the remarkable people at RIM are focused on the things that we – and we alone – do best. That focus on what we do best – will not change, ever. “

Thorsten closed by reflecting on RIM’s commitment and strength in mobile computing moving forward. “We must understand how the years ahead will see changes in the way we live and work that are no less significant than the changes we saw in the last decade. No one will argue that the changes in communications over the past   years were in large part because of BlackBerry,” he said. “…We are convinced that the BlackBerry 10 platform will shape the next 10 years as profoundly and as positively as BlackBerry shaped the last 10. To do that, we are listening. We are focused. We are excited about our future. We are fighting. Join us.”
