TGV Cinemas Goes Fully Digital with 3D-X @ Setiawalk Mall in Puchong.

27 Nov

TGV Cinemas Sdn Bhd (TGV Cinemas) led the way to the future for exhibitors and cinema operators in Malaysia with the launch of its new Digital 3D projection system called 3D-X with the exclusive premiere of Ang Lee’s first 3D film, Life of Pi at the spanking new 50,923 sq ft TGV Cinemas SetiaWalk in Puchong.

However, all the hypes and expectation of the new 3D-X projection fell flat in front of vast audience of the media and invited guests as technical glitches put paid to the planned screening of the movie in all of its 3D glory. The audience was later relocated to other halls to watch Lee’s movie that are only capable of screening movies in Digital 2D format.

This launch also signifies the theatre’s progressive transition from 35 mm film projection to digital cinema projection which is expected to be fully completed by January 2013. Apart from delivering unmatched brightness, sharpness and superior 3D images, with 3D-X, TGV Cinemas is now capable of displaying high-definition content – 2K, 4K and 3D feature films, documentaries and alternative content.

“The innovation found in today’s digital cinema technology to greatly improve the movie-going experience makes the film-to-digital conversion a top priority for TGV Cinemas. With the 3D-X roll-out, TGV Cinemas can now offer the best in digital cinematic experience in 3D,” explained Kenny Wong, CEO of TGV Cinemas.

The new cinema at SetiaWalk is the 20th TGV outlet and is located in the Puchong vicinity. The opening of a new cinema is timely as it addresses the growing need of a cinema exhibitor in the developing neighbourhood which extends to Subang and Shah Alam. Cinema-goers can catch their favourite movies without needing to travel to high traffic areas in other parts of the Klang Valley.

The 3D glasses needed for viewing movies at the 3D-X hall are disposable, with the audience able to bring back them home instead of returning at the end of the movie as compared to conventional and IMAX 3D formats. Surprisingly, the 3D-X glasses are fully compatible with LG’s Cinema 3D TVs and monitors although it is not certain whether the latter’s 3D glasses will work the same on the former.

TGV SetiaWalk brings a whole new dimension to the cinema experience for Malaysians as it includes the very best of comfort and digital cinema experience. The new cinema is home to a Beanieplex, which has comfortable cushy beanbag seats that come in pairs, and eight other cinema halls all equipped with the latest digital projection system.

Movie seating at TGV SetiaWalk is one of the features not to be missed. The stadium-like seating provides cinema-goers an exceptional vantage point inside the cinema halls directed to the screen. This unique positioning of plush seats is paired with wider leg room that guarantees comfort throughout the duration of a movie. Setting new benchmarks in the cinema industry, TGV Cinemas is more than just a cinema exhibitor. TGV SetiaWalk is also another venue for hosting corporate and private events. Equipped with two function rooms and a classy foyer, Malaysians can expect one-of-a-kind-event experiences at TGV Cinemas.

“Cinema-goers constantly demand for a change of environment whilst watching a movie. The combination of high technology and unique experience are the essentials to provide a value-added cinema experience. With the distinctive features at SetiaWalk, our patrons are now able to experience the full potential of a movie screening with crystal clear image and sound and a comfortable ambience.

“We are in the business of entertainment and entertainment is all about engaging the emotional experience of the audience. As this is also a natural part of our business, TGV Cinemas is always at the forefront in ensuring Malaysians get to experience new and innovative measures as they step foot into our cinemas. With the technology enhancements and upgrades, all our cinema patrons can look forward to a slew of exciting blockbuster movies lined up next year with a cinematic experience unlike any other,” Wong added.

Marc Marquez Fastest During Private Test @ Sepang

27 Nov

The second day of testing in Malaysia was kinder to both the Repsol Honda Team and the Go & Fun Honda Gresini outfit, as dry conditions gave their riders a full day’s running to test their respective bikes.

The track was dry by 11:30 with an ambient temperature of 32 degrees Celsius and 65% humidity. And it was Repsol’s Marc Márquez who went fastest, as the Spanish youngster spent the day trying various set ups and also tested the 2013 prototype which teammate Dani Pedrosa already experienced in Valencia. He completed 60 laps with a best time of 2’01.355, which is just over a second off the pole record set this year. His time was also over two seconds faster than yesterday, showing just how much progress he has made in the space of a day.

The Spaniard commented: “Today we finally had dry conditions for the whole day! In the morning the track was a little wet still from yesterday but it dried up pretty quickly and we were able to go out on track at around 11.30am and make use of the entire day. In the first exit we improved our time from yesterday, which is definitely a positive. Then we tried some new set ups and I started to understand the bike better and my confidence began to grow. I also tried the 2013 prototype today, which felt good, but it’s more important that I take my time to learn the MotoGP bike and adapt my riding style to suit these bigger machines. It’s been a great day and I hope the weather remains dry for tomorrow so we can cover more laps and continue to learn.”

Go & Fun Honda Gresini’s Álvaro Bautista continued his work on the new components brought by suspension supplier Showa, posting the second fastest time on his 2012-spec satellite Honda machine with a 2’01.950. Following yesterday’s test in wet conditions, the team is also hoping to get some more wet time to evaluate the new parts further for such track conditions. Despite finding some good points, Bautista was not satisfied that the improvement was significant enough. The team will be trying new parts from brake supplier Nissin in the final day of testing tomorrow.

He said: “It has been a long and busy day because we had a lot of stuff from Showa to test. It was hard, because every time I exited on track was with a new fork or new rear shock, so it was not easy to stay focussed. The small positive we found yesterday is the only positive we had today. We tested different suspensions but we didn’t find any better settings than yesterday. It has been hard, but in the end we could test everything. It was not what we expected, but this is reality. We have to speak with HRC and together we have to take a decision [about which suspension to use next year]. This is not easy, as I’m here to try and improve the Showa suspension by request from HRC, but after two busy days of work we didn’t find big improvements, so we have to talk to HRC and take a decision together.”

Honda test-rider Kousuke Akiyoshi was tasked once more with evaluating the 2013 upgraded bike’s engine parts, which so far has received good feedback, whilst new test rider Takumi Takahashi continued his “training” with the team. Takahashi suffered a crash around mid-day, but walked away unhurt. Akiyoshi put in a total of 48 laps to post the third fastest time with a 2’03.820, while Takahashi recorded a 2’07.360 from 57 laps.

Ferrari’s 20th anniversary in China Attracts 250,000 People

27 Nov

Hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic spectators lined the streets of Guangzhou in the south of China during the closing event of 11 months of celebrations for the 20th anniversary of Ferrari’s presence in China. The importance of the event was marked by the arrival of Ferrari’s Chairman, Luca di Montezemolo, who in the morning met the nation’s media during the first press day at the Guangzhou Auto Show.

During the packed press conference on the Ferrari stand, Montezemolo underlined the importance of the Chinese market for the company. “We consider our first 20 years presence in this nation as just a start. I am very pleased with the results we have attained so far and I would like to thank all those who have worked so hard and who share our dreams and our passion. With the warmth and affection we feel surrounding Ferrari in China I am sure we will continue to grow together.”

Greater China has recently become Ferrari’s second most important market along with Germany, with sales that have reached over 700 and with a 25-strong dealership network. In the afternoon the streets of Guangzhou were the scene of celebrations, starting with a parade of over 130 Ferraris, the biggest ever seen in China. The enthusiasm of the crowds of spectators, clients and fans on the passage of the cars was amazing and one of the highlights of the parade was the appearance, for the first time in public, of a new version of the 458 Italia produced as a limited series for the Chinese market, with characteristic Chinese elements and finished in a special Rosso Marco Polo.

The cars paraded from the local Ferrari showroom as far as the Haixinsha stadium, which hosted the highly successful 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, where 18,000 people filled the venue to watch a display that concluded with an exhibition of the 2012 International GT Open championship-winning 458 GT2 driven by Gianmaria Bruni who took the Drivers’ title. The celebrations continued with the illumination of the Canton Tower, the city’s main landmark, in red for the occasion while 500 clients took part in the gala evening inside.

“It has been a marvellous day of celebrations,” commented Montezemolo, “with many enthusiasts, a lot of young people and the city full of Ferrari flags. This has been the best demonstration yet of what the Prancing Horse represents in China – not just from a commercial point of view, but above all else for the Chinese people’s passion for Ferrari.”
