Canon Launches “Power of a Shot” Campaign

20 Dec

Recognizing the power of emotion that a photograph evokes, Canon U.S.A., Inc. has launched a television campaign this holiday season that shows how images can magnify the subtle feelings in everyday life. From love and nostalgia to surprise, excitement and joy, Canon PowerShot cameras are the perfect devices to document all of the incredible emotions that we experience daily. Whether it is capturing a loved one’s milestone birthday or recording our personal achievements, photography has the power to preserve every moment so they can be shared and cherished for years to come.

In addition to an engaging television campaign, Canon U.S.A. also features a unique Facebook application that identifies the emotions of a user’s photo collection. The application scans a chosen photo album for a variety of emotions – including passion, love and nostalgia –then creates a unique visual summary of the specific feelings that reside in the image collection. Users can then share this visual summary with their Facebook friends and discuss the emotion they’ve captured through their own photography. The application, and more information on the Power of a Shot campaign, can be accessed at http://powerofashot.usa.canon.com

The television campaign, titled “Power of a Shot,” which can be seen this holiday season, features examples of emotion and feeling from everyday life that can be preserved through photography, including:

Love An adoring glance from a husband to his wife or the first love between high school sweethearts are just a few of the emotions that could easily slip by in the moment. With Canon’s compact PowerShot ELPH 520 HS camera, which is custom-fit with a 12x Optical Zoom and a 28mm Wide-Angle Lens, you can capture all of the memories that makes your heart melt.

Nostalgia Birthday memories, like photos, were meant to last. But when the lights go down and the candles are lit, it’s sometimes tough to get a great photo to share that moment. Thanks to the Canon HS System, available on several PowerShot models including the PowerShot G15, images taken in darker conditions can be enhanced without the need for additional lighting or flash.

Surprise The best moments can take us by surprise. So when you head out for a night on the town, be sure to pack a camera that is slim and easy to carry but can also capture moments in an instant. With its sleek, pocket-sized body the stylish PowerShot S110 is ready when you are so you’ll never forget the moment that left you speechless.

Excitement Excitement is in the details, and this feeling should be captured through stunning photography. With the 3.2-inch wide touch panel PureColor System LCD screen on the PowerShot ELPH 530 HS, friends and family will be blown away by the rich clarity, color and quality of your images that can be previewed on the camera and preserved through your prints. .

Joy Any grandmother will agree that once in a lifetime events need to be captured. With Full HD 1080p video and a Dynamic Image Stabilizer, life’s biggest “oh wow” moments are preserved, just as they happened, in high quality HD video. And in some cases, even better, thanks to Canon’s Smart AUTO mode, a feature which is available on several PowerShot cameras including the super-zoom PowerShot SX50 HS.

Delkin Announces Plans for CFast Video Cards

14 Dec

Delkin Devices, a US based manufacturer of flash memory cards and digital photography accessories, today announces plans to leverage their experience in Industrial and Commercial CFast design and manufacturing to build a Consumer CFast card optimized for professional video applications. The company began building and shipping CFast cards for embedded industrial applications over a year ago and has shipped hundreds of units around the world for applications from industrial automation, to aerospace, to casino gaming, and even agriculture.

“CFast combines the mechanical robustness and portability of the industry standard CompactFlash card with the performance benefits of the SATA interface,” explains VP of Sales and Business Development, James Grassman. “In the Industrial space the transition from PATA to SATA ports in single board computer designs created the demand for CFast over a year ago. With the transition from 1080p capable DSLRs, camcorders, projectors and televisions to emerging 4k video capabilities, we’re excited to take our experience and knowledge of CFast and apply it to build a version optimized for these new devices.”

The CFast specification by the CompactFlash Association reports theoretical speed capabilities many times faster than the world’s fastest CompactFlash memory card, making it the ideal storage medium for high resolution recording devices that need to offload giant amounts of data in real time. With host manufacturers such as Phase One already announcing plans to utilize this new form factor in future devices, Delkin is looking forward to offering a storage solution to compliment the future of video acquisition and production.

While specifics about the new card haven’t been released yet, Delkin has announced that they’ll continue to build their current offerings that are optimized for Industrial and Commercial environments and add a new third design for professional video environments where speed is the critical factor. Delkin currently builds 8GB-128GB CFast cards for Commercial applications and 8GB – 64GB CFast cards for Industrial environments, with separately defined temperature and write cycle specifications for each based on usage application needs. The company excels in this space due to their focus on carefully controlled BOMs (Bill of Material), product customization in small batches, and US manufacturing capabilities.

PadFone 2 has also been subtly refined to increase its screen size to 4.7-inch, while reducing its thickness and weight to just 9mm at its thickest point and 135 grams, respectively.

The Padfone 2’s battery life is astounding too, as it utilises the higher-capacity PadFone 2 2140 mAh Lithium battery, which provides up to 16 hours 3G talk-time and 13 hours Wi-Fi web browsing, while the PadFone 2 Station’s 5000 mAh Lithium battery gives up to 36 hours 3G talk-time. Canon EOS 5D Mark III: The Guide to Understanding and Using Your Camera

12 Dec

Rocky Nook, Santa Barbara’s leading publisher of books on the techniques and aesthetics of digital photography, announces its new release Canon EOS 5D Mark III: The Guide to Understanding and Using Your Camera by James Johnson.

This book explores the features and capabilities of the Canon EOS 5D Mark III in a way that far surpasses the user’s manual. Johnson provides step-by-step instructions for setting adjustments; color illustrations; and detailed how, when, and why explanations for each menu option. Every button, dial, switch, and menu configuration setting is explored in a user-friendly manner, with suggestions for setup. Screenshots and example images are placed throughout the book, making it easy to follow along.

Johnson covers everything from the basic features of the camera to the numerous advanced photographic options as he discusses topics such as focus and exposure, lenses, lighting, custom settings, and more.

About the Author When James (Jim) Johnson retired from a 25-year career as a software developer for IBM, he had already been working as a contract technical editor for Microsoft. After his retirement, technical editing and writing became his primary source of income to cover the cost of his “toys” – most of which were computer and photographic equipment.

Jim’s involvement with cameras began in the mid ‘50s when he needed to record the interior of caves in Kentucky. At the time, the greatest challenge was to provide adequate illumination, so he purchased a Leica 3F camera and experimented with numerous lighting sources. He was later able to add a nice piece of brass-and-glass that had been manufactured by Canon during the post-war occupation. That 100 mm telephoto was every bit as sharp and capable as the Leica lenses. Such began Jim’s appreciation for Japanese camera equipment.

Jim and his wife Heather live on the California coast in a home that overlooks the Morro Bay estuary. The coast, the bays, and the mountains combine to host a vast array of botanical subjects, which are the focus of Jim’s current photographic interest.

To buy this book, order it online via the Website: O’Reilly Shop
