Fujifilm Malaysia Launches FinePix X20 and FinePix X100S

26 Feb

Two years ago, Fujifilm launched the prestigious X100 with a FUJINON 23mm f/2 fixed prime lens and superb image quality, in a beautifully designed compact camera body.  Its unique style and international acclaim has carved out a niche for a new genre of Premium Compact Camera, designed in pursuit of optimum operability. Today, Fujifilm Malaysia has launch its successor, the Fujifilm X100S, inheriting the elegant design and high-performance lens, whilst evolving further to meet customers’ demands with the introduction of a higher-definition Hybrid Viewfinder and a new sensor and processor.

The X100S has the ability to capture high resolution images, comparable to those taken on full-frame sensors. This is down to a combination of its newly-developed 16.3 megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor and EXR Processor II, which together increase resolution by approx. 25% (*2) and reduce noise by more than 30% (*3). Clear images with minimal graininess, even at high ISO settings, can also be produced, thanks to the removal of the optical low pass filter and the introduction of a more powerful processor.

The newly-developed X-Trans CMOS II sensor has built-in Phase Detection pixels which provide the X100S with the world’s fastest AF in as little as 0.08 seconds (*1). Additionally, the EXR Processor II offers very speedy response times with a start-up time of approx. 0.5 seconds (*4), and a shooting interval of 0.5 seconds. Plus with its shutter time lag of only 0.01 seconds, it allows you to react quickly and capture each precise moment you want to with no missed photo opportunities.

Also new to the X100S is the world’s first (*5) “Digital Split Image” feature, which displays dual images on the left and right to be lined up for manual focusing. This enables accurate focusing especially when working with an open aperture or macro shooting. What’s more there is a handy Focus Peak Highlight function, which shows you precisely which area of your composition is in focus.

Depending on the subject and scene, users can switch between two viewfinder options: optical or electronic. The Optical Viewfinder (OVF) is useful when users want to see their subject in the same bright clarity that they see with the naked eye, or when time lag is an issue. The high resolution 2.36 million dot electronic viewfinder (EVF) is useful when you want to be able to visually check focus, exposure, white balance and depth of field whilst composing the shot.

The new Fujifilm X20 is the successor to the X10. It features a bright optical viewfinder with a newly developed Digital Trans Panel, and a brand new 12 megapixel 2/3-type X-Trans CMOS II sensor with built-in Phase Detection pixels and no low-pass filter. The hybrid auto focus system enables the Fuji X20 to achieve focus lock in as little as 0.06 second, while the new EXR Processor II offers fast responses with a start-up time of approximately 0.5 second, a shutter lag of 0.01 second and a shooting interval of 0.5 second, providing advanced flexibility. The X20 also delivers an impressive burst rate of 12 frames per second at the full 12 megapixel resolution.

The Intelligent Hybrid AF automatically switches to Contrast AF when the subject or scene demands it to ensure that the camera always auto-focuses at the highest speed and precision levels possible. In addition, a Focus Peak Highlight feature is available to help photographers manually focus the lens by highlighting the area of the image currently in focus. Inherited from the Fujifilm X10, the high-precision f/2.0-2.8 4x manual barrel zoom lens is made up of 11 glass elements in 9 groups, including 3 aspherical lens elements and 2 extra-low dispersion lens elements. In Super Macro mode you can get as close as 1cm from your subject.

MotoGP Winter Test II gets underway @ Sepang

26 Feb

After a two week absence it was time again for the MotoGP grid to descend on the Malaysian Sepang International Circuit to commence their second three-day test of 2013, with Repsol Honda Team’s Dani Pedrosa leading the early proceedings ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Márquez at the mid-day point.

Pedrosa once again started where he had left off as he had set the quickest time at the 2pm local-time mid-day point of the test with a 2.01’580. The Spaniard, who is working on bike set-up and longer runs, is once again joined by his rookie teammate Marc Márquez, who went third fastest as he tests Pedrosa’s bike set-up from the Sepang test one and continues to build his confidence. He had a small off this morning, though walked away unscathed.

The Yamaha Factory Racing duo of Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi ended the morning in second and fifth respectively, with the pair both working on race-distance runs on their M1. Rossi had cited after the first test that this was still his weakest point compared to his teammate. His team from last year, Ducati, has turned up with a new fuel tank for riders Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden to try, as the Italian went eighth fastest and Hayden ninth early in the day.

LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl was the quickest satellite machine out of the blocks, as the German ended the morning in fourth ahead of Rossi, as he looked to choose between the two setting options the team worked through in the first test, whilst he also continues to dial in the Öhlins suspension and Nissin brakes. GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Álvaro Bautista was seventh quickest as he continues his work with the RC213V paired with Showa suspension.

Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Cal Crutchlow continued his impressive form from early February in sixth, with his British rookie teammate Bradley Smith doing the same as he establishes himself further in the premier-class in tenth. Pramac Racing’s Ben Spies stared the test in 13th as he looks to recover further from his shoulder injury, whilst his teammate Andrea Iannone was working on evaluating two different engines for Ducati with different weight distributions in 14th.

The three factory teams once again have a raft of test riders present with Yamaha’s Katsuyuki Nakasuga and Wataru Yoshikawa, Honda’s Takumi Takahashi, as well as Ducati’s Michele Pirro.

Topping the CRT standings at the mid-day point was Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaró in 12th despite a small crash, just over 2.3 seconds off the top. His time is impressive from the off, with the next best CRT being Hiroshi Aoyama in 17th on his Avintia Blusens machine. He is followed by Aspar’s Randy de Puniet, Came IodaRacing Project’s Danilo Petrucci, Cardion AB Motoracing’s Karel Abraham and Paul Bird Motorsport’s Yonny Hernandez. NGM Mobile Forward Racing riders Colin Edwards and Claudio Corti have already looked to improve over the last test, as they both lead from Avintia’s Héctor Barberá, Gresini’s Bryan Staring and Ioda’s Lukas Pesek.

Nikon Issues Product Advisory to D600 Owners

Nikon Press Release

To users of the Nikon D600 digital SLR camera

Thank you for choosing Nikon for your photographic needs.

Some users have indicated the appearance of multiple granular dust spots in images captured with the Nikon D600 digital-SLR camera. These granular dust spots are reflections of internal dust generated with camera operation, or external dust particles that have found their way into the camera, either, or both of which, have adhered to the camera’s low-pass filter.

While the structure and concept of digital-SLR cameras makes the complete elimination of these dust spots very difficult, it has come to our attention that, in some rare cases, they may be reflected noticeably in images. Therefore, Nikon is informing users of a service to reduce this issue.

Resolution As a first step, please follow the guidance from the User’s Manual (pages 301-305) related to the “Clean Image Sensor” function and manual cleaning using a blower. If these measures do not remove all dust particles and you are still experiencing problems, then please consult your nearest Nikon service center. They will keep your camera, examine it thoroughly, and service it as needed.

Requesting service Please direct inquiries regarding this matter to your nearest  Nikon service center.

We hope that you will continue to choose Nikon for your photographic needs.

Nikon Announces D7100 DSLR Camera

21 Feb

Nikon brings you portable performance to give your photography an adrenaline injection with the release of its new enthusiast-level DX format camera, the 24.1-megapixel Nikon D7100. Surprisingly light and compact for its feature-packed and extremely durable body, the Nikon D7100 goes the extra mile when you do. Its professional-level 51-point AF system brings your vision to life with spectacular results, in finely detailed stills or crisp and clear Full HD movies.

Whether you shoot landscapes, nature or wildlife images, or if you are a keen traveller, then the new Nikon D7100 is designed for you. Housed in a durable weather-resistant body, photographers can now enjoy extraordinary performance and high quality results in a portable camera they can take anywhere.”

ADVANCED PERFORMANCE FOR SENSATIONAL IMAGE QUALITY The Nikon D7100 offers superb performance and a huge step up in image quality through an inspiring range of features. Its powerful 24.1-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor guarantees sharply detailed images. By not employing an optical low pass filter (OLPF), the sensor makes the most of its megapixels for impressive high resolution. Images appear extremely sharp, allowing even the finest of textures like hair or feathers to be captured in ultra-high definition. Its EXPEED 3 image processor brings high-speed operation, vibrant colour reproduction and enhanced noise reduction.

The high ISO sensitivity of 100-6400, extendable to 25600 brings superior results even in poorly lit or dark environments, as well as clearly capturing fast-moving subjects. High-speed continuous shooting is assured at up to 6 fps, to easily capture the details of fast movements or rapidly changing facial expressions.

PROFESSIONAL-LEVEL 51-POINT AUTOFOCUS SYSTEM The Nikon D7100’s AF system offers professional-level performance by employing the same algorithm as the D4. It utilises 51 focus points with 15 cross-type sensors in the central area, offering perfect precision and subject acquisition. Rapid focusing is achieved on even a largely blurred image, due to faster initial AF detection. AF operation is possible under a combined aperture value of f/8, allowing more combinations of lenses and teleconverters to be used – new to cameras of this class. Phase-detection AF is possible down to a minimum luminance of -2 EV, for precise focus in even the darkest of conditions, including moonlight.

Phase detection AF in viewfinder shooting is enhanced with improved operability, accuracy and speed. It offers a wide range of area modes from Single Point to Dynamic Area (set to 9, 21 or 51 points), 3-D tracking and Auto Area. In Live View, contrast-detect AF has also been improved with enhanced operability, accuracy and speed. Movie AF-F is also improved for even better focusing capabilities.

Scene Recognition utilises the powerful 2016-pixel metering sensor to identify your subject’s environment with precision prior to shooting, optimising auto exposure (AE), autofocus (AF) and auto white balance (AWB) for more accurate control. The synergy of the Nikon D7100’s 51-point AF system with its 2,016-pixel RGB sensor gives outstanding performance that surpasses its predecessors.

NEW HORIZONS FOR DX FORMAT WITH 1.3X CROP The 1.3x crop function offers a range of unique options that expand the possibilities of DX format. Firstly, it opens up greater potential for your existing and new lenses by offering an additional 1.3x telephoto effect. In this mode, 51 focus points cover an even wider area of the frame, right up to the edges, for exceptional subject acquisition. It also allows for faster operation of up to 7 fps continuous shooting and Full HD movie recording up to 50i/60i. These features combine to provide unique possibilities for shooting wildlife, dynamic action and making the most of your telephoto lens.

EXTREME DURABILITY IN A COMPACT BODY The Nikon D7100’s light and rugged body with magnesium alloy top and rear covers has superior dust, drop and weather resistance, making it a highly robust yet conveniently light camera for its class. Weighing just 675g, the camera’s connected parts are securely sealed to combat invasive moisture and dust, while its image sensor cleaning function activates automatically when the camera is turned on or off.The shutter mechanism has also been tested for 150,000 cycles under demanding conditions. The D7100 is the camera you can rely on – wherever you go, whatever you do.

ERGONOMIC AND INTUITIVE Ergonomically designed to ensure a stable hold in a compact shape, the Nikon D7100 features a high-performance viewfinder with approximately 100% frame coverage and 0.94x magnification. A high-intensity LCD monitor with 8cm/3.2in 1229k-dot wide-angle view offers clear and precise framing. New usability functions are at your fingertips for viewfinder, Live View and playback. The improved ‘i’ button gives you direct access to frequently used functions and spot white balance can be set quickly when shooting in Live View. The dual memory card slot gives enhanced flexibility in how you shoot and store images: shift easily to a second card when the first is full, or shoot stills on one and movies on the other.

FULL HD MOVIE WITH TWO MOVIE FORMATS High standards of image quality and ease of operability continue in Full HD Movie, allowing you to shoot Full HD (1920 x 1080) at frame rates of up to 60i/50i in 1.3x crop mode and up to 30p/25p/24p in DX format. A range of creative effects like Selective Colour can be applied in real time. While a stereo microphone is built in, the Nikon D7100 is also compatible with an external microphone ME-1.

CLEAR CAPTURE OF HIGH CONTRAST SCENES When shooting high contrast scenes, Active D-Lighting (ADL) retains clear details in both highlights and shadows even when the subject is moving. With balanced fill-flash mode, flash output is adjusted to an optimal level. For subjects with big differences in brightness, High Dynamic Range (HDR) function helps to retain the details in both dark and light areas of the image by taking two consecutive images at different exposures and then intelligently combining them into one.

EASY IMAGE SHARING WITH WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY With wireless capability via the optional WU-1a Mobile Adapter, images from the Nikon D7100 can be transmitted easily and wirelessly to an AppleTM or AndroidTM smart device*, for sharing on social media or photo sharing websites. Now your best images can be shared instantly with your friends or photo community, wherever you are. Your camera can also be controlled via your device for discreet remote shooting, helping you to take great shots without disturbing your subjects.

INSPIRATIONAL EFFECTS IN REAL TIME Effects Mode adds original touches to both stills and movies with a range of seven special effects: Selective Colour, Miniature, High and Low Key, Silhouette, Colour Sketch and Night Vision can all be applied in real time through Live View so you can see the results as you shoot. Choosing Selective Colour lets you emphasise a single colour or up to 3 colours on a black and white background. Set the mode dial to Effects and a whole new world of image creation opens up. There’s also a range of options to apply effects and retouch after shooting.

ACCESSORIES FOR EASY REMOTE SHOOTING Nikon is also announcing WR-1, a new wireless remote transceiver that further expands the recently updated range of Nikon’s wireless control accessories. WR-1 features dot matrix display and a score of advanced features that enable the user to take control of most of the shooting operations – from simple remote shutter release to complex, multi-camera set-ups as well as possibility to check and change camera settings when mounted on the Nikon D7100. Various shooting scenarios can be pre-programmed, including simultaneous shooting, interval timer photography as well as customised shutter release delay. Operating on radio frequencies for unobstructed communication, a pair of WR-1 transceivers have a range of operation of up to 120 meters, which can be further expanded with a combination of multiple WR-1’s and/or WR-R10’s.

Sony Alpha A58 DSLT

21 Feb

The new Alpha α58 interchangeable lens camera from Sony – with Translucent Mirror technology for speedy shooting and fast, accurate autofocus, it’s the must-have choice for grabbing those once-in-a-lifetime picture opportunities. If you’re new to interchangeable lens photography, you’ll enjoy image quality that effortlessly exceeds your point-and-shoot compact camera combined with premium features you would expect to see in a far higher-priced DSLR.

At the heart of the α58 is a brand new Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor with an extremely high resolution of (approx.) 20.1 effective megapixels. It’s teamed with an improved BIONZ image processing engine for exceptionally detailed, low-noise stills and Full HD video, plus an extra-wide sensitivity range of ISO 100 to 16000.

Pick from the choice of 35 interchangeable A-mount lenses (including two tele-converters) and experience flawless images in virtually any lighting conditions, from dimly lit interiors to atmospheric twilight scenes. Even if you’re shooting handheld, SteadyShot INSIDE keeps pictures crisp and stable, letting you shoot with confidence at slower shutter speeds or higher zoom settings, where wobbles are often a worry.

Unlike ordinary DSLR cameras, Sony SLT cameras use Translucent Mirror technology that directs light onto the main image sensor as well as a separate autofocus sensor. This means that subjects stay sharply focused at all times as you compose scenes with the tilt-angle LCD or through the high-resolution, high-contrast OLED Tru-Finder. Plus, with no moving mirror to slow you down, you’ll enjoy non-stop live image previews during speedy burst shooting or while you’re recording Full HD video.

The α58 is your ideal partner for grabbing the action as it happens – ideal for sports, wildlife or spur-of-the-moment fun with friends and family. Tele-zoom Continuous Advance Priority AE mode brings that decisive moment closer with a high-speed burst of sharp images at eight frames per second. The high-performance 15-point AF system now features Lock-on Autofocus with speedier, more accurate subject tracking. So now you can capture the athletic grace of a gymnast or animals in the wild with a burst of crisply focused images, even if your subject’s moving.

Featured on previous models, Auto Portrait Framing has now evolved into the even more versatile Auto Object Framing – helping you get better looking, more professional results without effort. The α58 judges what is in the scene – one person, two people, even moving objects or macro subjects – tracking, framing and cropping the shot to create powerful, professionally-framed compositions. Thanks to Sony’s Pixel Super Resolution Technology cropped images preserve the same resolution as the original exposure.

Instantly selectable from the mode dial, Picture Effect lets you pick from a palette of 15 artistic ‘in-camera’ treatments, including Toy Camera, Mono and Partial Colour.

Framing, focusing and viewing your shots is easy to do through the new OLED Tru-Finder. This bright, high resolution electronic viewfinder accurately shows the results of adjusting camera settings in real time. Instantly see the result of adjusting exposure compensation, aperture, ISO, white balance, Picture Effect and other parameters before you shoot – not after. It’s a great way to compose the perfect shot with confidence.

The α58 is the first-ever Sony A-mount interchangeable lens camera that offers support for new ‘TRILUMINOS Colour technology** – you’ll experience a dramatically expanded palette of vivid, ultra-realistic colours when videos and still images are played back on any BRAVIA TV that supports ‘TRILUMINOS Display’.

Sony Announces 70-400mm, Carl Zeiss 50mm F1.4, 18-55mm Lenses

21 Feb

Sony has extend the range of its line-up of A-mount interchangeable lenses with three new models to meet the needs of the most demanding enthusiasts and photo professionals.

The 70-400mm F4-5.6 G SSM II and Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50mm F1.4 ZA SSM lenses complement the impressive imaging capabilities of Sony’s full-frame α99 SLT (Translucent Mirror) camera. While the DT 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 SAM II is a light, compact 3x zoom that’s an ideal partner for A-mount cameras with APS-C sensors. They are joined by a new compact on-camera flash and a wired remote, both ideal for macro photography and other ‘hands-off’ applications.

“70-400mm F4-5.6 G SSM II” telephoto zoom Sony’s G lens line-up is strengthened for 2013 with the revised 70-400mm F4-5.6 G SSM II. Ideal for capturing wildlife and action-packed sports, the upgraded super-telephoto zoom builds further on the premium performance of its predecessor with enhanced optics and faster, more responsive autofocus. With its new LSI drive circuit, autofocus speed of the SSM (Super Sonic Wave Motor) is around four times quicker than before. Teamed with enhanced tracking AF, the upgraded lens is now even more suitable for capturing stills and Full HD video of fast-moving subjects.

While its optical design is carried over from the previous model, the new-generation lens features Sony’s proprietary Nano AR Coating on optical surfaces. Offering around five times the efficiency of conventional anti-reflection coatings, this advanced technology reduces flare and ghosting, for exceptionally high-contrast images.

Carl Zeiss “Planar T* 50mm F1.4 ZA SSM” The new Planar T* 50mm F1.4 ZA SSM joins the existing Distagon 24mm, Planar 85mm and Sonnar 135mm in the A-mount range of prime length optics by Carl Zeiss. Offering a fixed 50mm focal length and extra-bright F1.4 aperture, the premium lens is an ideal choice for quality-critical portraiture and low-light shooting.

Featuring eight elements in five groups, with two aspherical elements, the brand new optical design is optimised for superb results with Sony’s full-frame α99.

Exceptional resolving power and contrast at all apertures are teamed with smooth, quiet autofocusing and a rear-focus system that maintains the same lens body length during AF. While the dust- and moisture-resistant design extend the appeal of the new lens to a wide range of outdoor shooting applications.

“DT 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 SAM II” zoom Boasting second-generation styling, this new lens succeeds the popular DT 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 SAM that was introduced in 2011. The light, compact 3x zoom lens covers a frequently used range of focal lengths, from wide-angle 18mm to standard 55mm (35mm camera equivalent range: 27-82.5mm). While retaining the same smooth AF motor (SAM) as its predecessor, newly-designed rear lens elements suppress flare and ghosting, while mechanical elements have been upgraded for a more positive, comfortable operation.

For additional space, users may simply replicate or extend content to additional monitors using DisplayPort 1.2.[1] After a productive day at work, a wide Full HD, visually stunning color accuracy and a breathtaking panoramic view can redefine an evening’s entertainment experience.

Dell Single Monitor Arm and Dual Monitor Stand The Dell Single Monitor Arm (MSA14) and Dell Dual Monitor Stand (MDS14) are designed to improve the viewing comfort of users and enhance user productivity. The MSA14 articulating arm can help maximize viewing comfort and improve productivity. Its multi-adjustment capabilities including height adjustability, tilt, swivel and pivot features let users move the monitor to the desired position and collaborate more easily. It can easily be attached to the U3014, U2713H, U2413 and select Dell monitor panels with a simple snap to the Dell Quick Release mount at the back of the monitor without needing screws. With the MDS14 dual monitor stand, users can snap on two Dell monitor panels with the Dell Quick Release mount and enjoy improved productivity and a clutter-free desktop. Tilt, swivel, height adjust and horizontally slide the monitors on the stand to customize to preferred viewing angles. The U-shaped monitor stand also frees up productive desk space in front of the monitors and reduces cable clutter with a cable management slot on the stand riser.

“The Dell UltraSharp series offers one of the industry’s highest-quality and most advanced technology experiences,” said George Toh, Marketing Director of Dell Displays. “We are thrilled to update the UltraSharp family with the U3014, U2713H and U2413 displays, along with our first Dell-branded single monitor arm and dual monitor stand.
