In conjunction with the launch of the four new models, Fast Bikes Sdn Bhd, also organised the inaugural Triumph Heritage Day in celebration of 111 years of British manufacturer Triumph Motorcycles which was first established in 1902. Triumph Heritage Day also brought together a congregation of classic and the new generation of Triumph motorcycles for public viewing, and a gathering of Triumph motorcycle owners otherwise known as the RAT Pack or Rider’s Association of Triumph.

The Triumph marque has made its presence felt in Malaysia for more than 50 years, and with the new generation of Triumph supersports, modern classics, dual purpose, touring and street motorcycles, is making an even greater presence on Malaysian roads over the last three years with Fast Bikes Sdn Bhd’s appointment as the Exclusive Official Distributor of Triumph Motorcycles.

“Triumph is back (in Malaysia), and in a very big way. If in Malaysia Triumph was better known in the past for its classic appeal and rich heritage, the new generation of Triumph models today are best identified and recognized for its technological prowess, the exhilarating riding experience and enjoyment it imparts on riders, and the diversity in its range of models with something for all segment of riders,” said Fast Bikes Sdn Bhd Chief Operating Officer Razak Al-Malique.

“It has been a challenging but far more phenomenal and rewarding three years for the Triumph marque and Fast Bikes Sdn Bhd, and we are extremely pleased with the support we have received from not only our principal Triumph Motorcycles, but also the various local institutions and ultimately the motorcycling community, who have contributed significantly to making this business venture a successful one.”

“With more than 200 units sold over the past 3 years we have been taking our time to get to know the brand, the motorcycle and character of each of the models from Triumph. We now understand how very reliable and awesome these bikes. We are therefore ready to move forward and are investing a substantial amount of time and money to achieve excellence in customer service and experience.

Interest has been increasing  and not only in Triumph’s range of street  and supersports bikes, but also in the adventure/touring segment and the many limited modern classic variants it offers, rising in tandem with Malaysia’s growing motorcycling community. This is also backed by Triumph’s award-winning track record and the many accolades its range of motorcycles have and continues to receive worldwide.

Another pivotal success factor is that all Triumph motorcycles are backed by a two-year unlimited mileage warranty underlining not only the brand’s confidence but its commitment to customers in terms of after sales service.

Razak said Fast Bikes Sdn Bhd is also due to open the first Triumph Motorcycles flagship showroom which will is strategically located in Petaling Jaya in the second quarter of 2013. The company’s showroom and corporate office is currently in Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur. Fast Bikes is spending close to RM1million for the new flagship showroom.

Lorenzo Leads The Hondas on 1st Day of Jerez MotoGP Test 2013

23 Mar

Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo topped the timesheets as the final Official Pre-Season Test commenced in Jerez on Saturday. The day was broken up by numerous heavy rain showers as the Yamaha Factory Racing rider led Repsol Honda Team duo Dani Pedrosa and Marc Márquez.

The first half of the day was all but a complete washout. As the session began, sunshine and dark clouds were vying for the circuit as they each covered half of it, but it was the latter which prevailed to bring several, heavy rainstorms. As the showers were intermittent, the field was never treated with either fully wet or dry conditions which resulted in most riders spending much time in their garages; as only four sets of Wet tyres are available for the duration of the test, using them in the transitional conditions posed too much of a threat and overheating was a real possibility. Four hours in, Pedrosa led the way but only nine runners had elected to post a lap time.

From the outset, Honda had never planned to run unless they believed it was completely meaningful, as the team was only intending to confirm information it had learned at the private test in Austin. Others had entirely different agendas, not least Hiroshi Aoyama who was highly keen to ride his Avintia Blusens CRT bike in the wet for the first time; he proved this by registering no less than 56 laps despite the greasy track; frustratingly for the team, new FTR components are arriving late due to the snow hassle which continues to affect the United Kingdom.

At the sharp end, Lorenzo’s leading effort was 1’47.423 to see off closest challenger Pedrosa by one second, as the varying weather and resulting modified test plans ensured that lap times were more spaced out than usual. Márquez, who had been quickest on all three days at Circuit of the Americas, was on this occasion third as he tackled Jerez with MotoGP machinery for the first time. Energy T.I. Pramac Racing Team’s Andrea Iannone and the second Yamaha of Valentino Rossi were fourth and sixth, with 2006 world champion Nicky Hayden leading the way for Ducati Team until test rider Michele Pirro progressed up the order to a top five place while running new parts. This left the American in seventh position.

Cal Crutchlow jumped ahead of LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl with less than an hour to go, although the German had crashed a short time before; thankfully he was able to walk away from the scene unaided. The third Ducati Team bike of Andrea Dovizioso completed the top ten from Ben Spies’ Ignite Pramac Racing Team machine and PBM’s ART, ridden by Colombian Yonny Hernández who was the leading CRT representative.

Elsewhere in the CRT ranks, Power Electronics Aspar did not run for the entire day, not least as Aleix Espargaró was set to run a brand-new engine which neither he nor the team intended to risk damaging by going out in the wet. His continued research into a new chassis and swingarm, first used at Sepang, is now put on hold until Sunday. That left Karel Abraham’s Cardion AB Motoracing and the NGM Mobile Forward Racing of Claudio Corti 14th and 15th, the latter experimenting with chassis changes first suggested by teammate Colin Edwards during their previous outing in Malaysia. Between CRT riders and very much out of position was the prototype GO&FUN Honda Gresini of Álvaro Bautista.

Familiar faces Danilo Petrucci and Héctor Barberá were 17th and 18th for Came IodaRacing Project and Avintia Blusens respectively, but the weather encouraged a tough day for newcomers such as Bradley Smith, Crutchlow’s teammate in the all-British Monster Yamaha Tech 3 line-up. The 22-year-old from Oxford completed only 14 laps, which was the second least after compatriot Michael Laverty; still in the early days of development for the in-house PBM chassis, he circulated just 12 times and completed the 23-bike timesheet behind Gresini’s Bryan Staring – much happier with handling – and Czech Lukáš Pešek.

Canon Announces EOS 100D and EOS 700D DSLRs

22 Mar

Canon has unveiled 2 new EOS cameras –  the Canon EOS 100D and EOS 700D. While the former is compact and lightweight, the improved features available in the EOS 700D are not worth mentioning. It is better to stick with the EOS 650D than spending $$$ to upgrade to one.

The EOS 100D is billed as “the smallest and lightest APS-C DSLR ever made.” Measuring just 116.8 x 90.7 x 69.4mm and weighing only 407g, the EOS 100D features a 3” ClearView II capacitive touchscreen, an 18-megapixel Hybrid CMOS AF II sensor and DIGIC 5 processor. The new sensor uses phase detection pixels spread across 80% of the sensor’s imaging surface to provide increased AF speed and tracking performance when the camera is in live view or when capturing Full-HD movies.

The Canon EOS 700D is a new digital SLR camera with an APS-C sized 18-megapixel Hybrid CMOS sensor, DIGIC 5 processor and a 5fps continuous shooting mode. The EOS 700D’s advanced AF module consists of 9 cross-type sensors spread across the frame, and a new, simplified 360° rotating mode dial to provide easy and swift access to the camera’s various shooting modes. A 3” vari-angle Clear View LCD II touchscreen makes it easy for users to frame, shoot and review from a variety of angles. When shooting in Live View mode, the Hybrid CMOS AF system enables speedy and accurate autofocus for photos and video, the company claims. The Canon EOS 700D is available from late April.

The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is a new standard zoom for the manufacturer’s APS-C digital SLR cameras, featuring near-silent STM technology optimised for focussing in live view and video modes. Other highlights include optical image stabilisation, an iris diaphragm with seven rounded blades, a non-rotating front element, Super Spectra coating and a close-focus point of 25cm. The EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM will be available from late April as well.
