Panasonic Announces Lumix G6 Mirrorless Camera

24 Apr

Panasonic has today launched its newest DSLM (Digital Single Lens Mirrorless) camera, the LUMIX DMC-G6, offering a 16.05M Live MOS Sensor, the advanced process noise reduction systems and a ‘Low Light AF’ function enabling serious photographers to take the quality of their pictures even further regardless of low-light situations.

The new powerful Venus Engine coupled with the LUMIX DMC-G6’s 16.05M Live MOS Sensor enable users to demonstrate the true image quality achievable with a DSLM camera.  Furthermore the camera has an improved ISO range from 160 ISO all the way up to 25,600 ISO (extended) allowing photographs to be captured in spite of very little light in some environments.

Boasting a high speed AF system, ‘Accurate AF’ and ‘Low Light AF’ for shooting in low-light conditions, you’ll never miss the perfect moment with the LUMIX DMC-G6. A wide range of AF modes are available, including multiple-area AF, Face Detection, and AF Tracking resulting in the LUMIX DMC-G6 being able to lock onto any subject and keep it in focus even if it moves. Additionally, the LUMIX DMC-G6’s rapid burst shooting capability – at seven Frames per Second (FPS) in full resolution, can capture multiple shots of fast-moving subjects with stunning clarity.

The quality advances of the LUMIX DMC-G6 are not restricted to still images. A 24p video mode has been added enabling users to capture moving images and play them back with a dedicated ‘film like’ appearance. The sensor and Venus Engine enable the camera to record in Full HD 1080/50p, with stereo sound, producing professional movie quality with minimal noise. With outputs in both AVCHD progressive and MP4, the LUMIX DMC-G6 provides wide compression and compatibility options. The long recording times, instant access controls, advanced AF system and LUMIX G lenses specifically designed for movie shooting, means the LUMIX DMC-G6 is the perfect option for capturing beautiful movies with ease.

The LUMIX DMC-G6 benefits from an OLED viewfinder which is not only brighter than a traditional LCD viewfinder but is also faster to display images, offers better visibility outdoors in bright sunlight and increases battery life due to lower power consumption.

With a choice of using either the Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) with eye sensor, or the high resolution, 3.0-inch free-angle monitor to compose your shots and movies, you can capture the moment as the situation demands. Meanwhile, the revolutionary touch control shooting – including full-area touch focusing where the focus can be set immediately to the subject, or to the background, by just one touch of the large monitor even when using the EVF – gives you the control to compose and create stunning images.

Introduced into the LUMIX G range with the LUMIX DMC-GF6, the LUMIX DMC-G6 also features integrated Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity offering a more flexible shooting experience and easy image sharing from an interchangeable lens camera.  After the initial setup, tablets and smartphones for remote shooting can be connected with a simple touch without having to re-enter authorisation details every time.

Marc Marquez Wins Austin MotoGP, Pedrosa 2nd and Lorenzo 3rd

22 Apr

Marc Marquez has become the youngest ever race winner in MotoGP, triumphing in Sunday’s inaugural Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas from teammate Dani Pedrosa. Reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo completed the podium, but it is Marquez who heads the standings after just two races in the top class.

On Saturday, 20-year-old Marquez took over from former double title winner Freddie Spencer as the youngest ever pole-sitter in the premier class. He now becomes the youngest race winner, having seen off a challenge from Pedrosa on the other Repsol Honda Team machine. Although he is now level on points with Lorenzo in the championship, Marquez holds the lead as he is the most recent Grand Prix winner.

As the red lights went out at the new Circuit of the Americas – located on the outskirts of Austin, Texas – it was Pedrosa who seized the lead, while Lorenzo headed backwards courtesy of a poor getaway. A lightning start for LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl allowed the German to go second but he was soon overhauled by Marquez, Lorenzo and Monster Tech 3 Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow.

Following Pedrosa and waiting patiently for his moment, Marquez courageously dived up the inside of Turn 7 on the 13th of the 21 laps. Pedrosa would hang onto the back of his teammate, but lost ground courtesy of a small error six laps later. To the delight of his crew, Marquez would take the chequered flag by one and a half seconds, with Lorenzo just over the same margin behind Pedrosa.

Having not tested at the venue a month ago, Crutchlow was more than pleased with fourth – having hoped for a top six result this weekend – as Bradl and Rossi completed that particular group, with the multiple title winner having overhauled GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista. The latter would also fall behind Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso, who progressed to seventh on the final lap and then avoided a last-corner lunge from his rival. Leading American rider Nicky Hayden and Energy T.I. Pramac Racing’s Andrea Iannone rounded out the top ten.

Extending his lead in the CRT ranks, Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaro enjoyed a strong ride to 11th place ahead of two prototype riders – English rookie Bradley Smith (Tech 3) and American Ben Spies (Ignite Pramac Racing) – as well as French teammate Randy de Puniet. PBM enjoyed its strongest weekend to date, with Yonny Hernandez sealing the final point for 15th position while Michael Laverty recorded his first MotoGP finish in 16th with the team’s own-built bike. Avintia Blusens maintained the symmetry in 17th and 18th, with Hiroshi Aoyama having overtaken Hector Barbera, while NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Claudio Corti, Gresini CRT rider Bryan Staring and Attack Performance Racing’s Blake Young (the single wildcard rider in the race) completed the field.

It was a hugely disappointing afternoon for Came IodaRacing Project. Danilo Petrucci was fortunate to stay upright when teammate Lucas Pesek crashed out of the race directly behind him, only to retire in the pits with mechanical gremlins only minutes later. Colin Edwards was also on the sidelines, as the local Texan hero racked up the unenviable fact of becoming the race’s first of three retirements.

Marquez Takes Pole Position for Austin MotoGP, Pedrosa 2nd

21 Apr

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez will start from pole position for tomorrow’s Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas after setting the fastest time on two wheels around the 5.5km Texas racetrack with a lap time of 2’03.021. Teammate Dani Pedrosa, was just two tenths off Marc, setting a time of 2’03.275 and will start alongside him in second place for the 21 lap race.

Track conditions improved again today and the riders dropped their times steadily throughout the practice sessions. However, in this morning’s FP3 session Marc had a big highside crash in T19 on his outlap but fortunately escaped without serious injury. The team were left with a mammoth task to rebuild the heavily damaged bike, but managed to achieve it and give Marc the best chance for qualifying.

With this result, Marc is youngest rider – 20 years and 62 days, to start from pole position in the premier class, taking the record from Freddie Spencer who qualified on pole at Jarama in 1982 at the age of 20 years and 153 days.
Today also marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Daijiro Kato, who sadly passed away after a tragic accident in Japan in 2003. As a mark of respect, both Marc and Dani displayed his number 74 on the front fender of their RC213V machines.

Marc Marquez       1st       2’03.021
“We are happy of course, because we took our first pole position which is important and always exciting! We knew beforehand that we could fight for pole, but you never know what will happen in the session. Both Dani and Jorge are fast over a single lap, and we managed to overcome them. The important stuff starts tomorrow, because we have a long, physical race with many of changes of direction to deal with. We need to be ready, because tomorrow is what really counts and I will do the best that I can!”

Dani Pedrosa       2nd       2’03.275
“The session was a little tense, as in fifteen minutes you only have time for four good laps. Fortunately we didn’t have any problems with traffic this time, and I was able to focus and put in a strong lap – faster than all but one in the end! It was a good session, and we took second on the grid which is positive, because Marc put in a fast lap and is close by. We need to try to increase the rear grip for tomorrow and work towards having a strong race.”

Marquez Fastest in FP1 at Circuit of the Americas

19 Apr

Photo: Dorna Communications

Marc Marquez completed his domination of Friday practice as MotoGP action began in Texas on Friday. The Repsol Honda Team rider comfortably topped both opening sessions, leading fellow Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and Stefan Bradl.

Following on from the three-day test session in which he took part a month ago, today Marquez looked comfortable from the off at what is the start of only his second race weekend in the premier class. Posting a best lap time of 2’05.031, improving on his previous best effort as the afternoon chequered flag flew, the 20-year-old Catalan led compatriot Pedrosa by over half a second.

Bradl, on the LCR Honda MotoGP machine, moved into the top three as championship leader Jorge Lorenzo and Yamaha Factory Racing teammate Valentino Rossi rounded out the top five. Perhaps to no great surprise of any of their rivals, this was the same quintet that had tested at the Hermann Tilke-designed facility back in March.

Cal Crutchlow was sixth for Monster Yamaha Tech 3 but 1.8 seconds off the leading pace, suggesting that a repetition of his front row start in Qatar may not be so easy to achieve on Saturday. Andrea Dovizioso led the way for Ducati Team from seventh; in the morning he and Nicky Hayden – with the American sampling a different version of windscreen – both finished inside the top five, but on this occasion the Italian hit trouble and was forced to park up less than 20 minutes in.

Completing the first group of ten were GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista – seemingly taking an immediate liking to the 5.5-kilometre layout – plus the aforementioned Hayden and fellow American countryman Ben Spies, on the Ignite Pramac Racing machine.

PBM’s Yonny Hernandez impressed in the first session, finishing 11th and leading the way for the CRT runners, but Qatar pace-setter Aleix Espargaro was back on form this afternoon and demoted the Colombian to 12th spot; this was notwithstanding a brief front brake issue for the Power Electronics Aspar rider.

Hoping to move ahead of those two CRTs is England’s Bradley Smith, whose MotoGP debut continues with the taxing task of learning a challenging new circuit for which his team has no past data; he ends the day in 13th position ahead of Aspar’s Randy de Puniet, who suffered the first significant fall of the weekend but escaped unharmed.

Energy T.I. Pramac Racing’s Andrea Iannone was another man to find himself mixed up with CRT representatives, finishing narrowly ahead of Cardion AB Motoracing’s Karel Abraham, NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Claudio Corti, Avintia Blusens’ Hiroshi Aoyama and Came IodaRacing Project’s Danilo Petrucci. In 20th place, Michael Laverty was encouraged by the pace of PBM’s own-built bike, behind which were no less than four regular competitors.

The field is completed by Ioda’s Lukas Pesek, Gresini’s Bryan Staring, Forward’s Colin Edwards – who is delighted to be racing at home in Texas – and Blusens’ Hector Barbera. Rounding out the 26-rider field are this weekend’s pair of American wildcard riders: Blake Young and Michael Barnes of their respective Attack Performance Racing and GPTech outfits.

The third practice session, deciding which ten riders move directly into Q2 Qualifying, commences on Saturday at 9:55am local time (GMT -5).

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF6

10 Apr

Panasonic has announced its latest mirrorless camera, the LUMIX DMC-GF6 to join its compact series line-up in the LUMIX G category.

The camera boasts a new Live MOS Sensor, newly developed Venus Engine and high precision, ‘Light Speed AF’ which all contribute to excellent image quality for photographers used to taking creative images with their smartphones but who are looking for a much more sophisticated and professional result by being able to have more control over manual settings such as aperture, shutter speed or lens selection.

With 19 filter effects. the DMC-GF6 is not just an interchangeable camera but a creative tool for any user looking to explore and change their photography habits from an amateur point-and-shoot photographer to a step-up user looking to take their photography more seriously.  Wi-Fi connectivity and NFC (Near Field Communication) make it easier than ever to remotely shoot from a tablet or smartphone, transfer images and share their pictures with friends, family and the online world.

Furthermore the DMC-GF6 has a dedicated video record button on the top so you can record full-HD video (1920×1080, 50i) in AVCHD with stereo sound. Contrary to its stylish appearance the camera is robust with a built-in flash (GN6.3 ISO160・m / GN5.0 ISO100・m), has a 3.0 inch, approx. 180 degree tilt-able monitor and comes with a fashionable black or white body.

The new Live MOS Sensor enables high resolution and high sensitivity image recording while minimizing the generation of noise. The Venus Engine image processor is also newly developed to feature its advanced noise reduction systems.  The controllable area of noise has been expanded by approx.64x in size. This makes it possible to remove large block of noise which were formally hard to detect and helps produce clear, smooth image especially for night time scenery.  The combination of the new Live MOS Sensor and the Venus Engine achieve ISO3200 (Auto) and max. ISO 25600 (Extended).

With its wide variety of shooting options such as ‘Self Shot’ mode; ‘Creative Control’ providing 19 filters; and Stop Motion Animation function the DMC-GF6 is not just a high quality camera. Users can shoot their own portraits by stretching an arm to hold the camera with the monitor flipped approx.180 degrees vertically allowing them to fit perfectly into the frame.

The popular ‘Creative Control’ mode has been upgraded by increasing the number of filters from the 14 of the DMC-GF5 to 19 for the DMC-GF6, adding new Old Days, Sunshine*, Bleach Bypass, Toy Pop, Fantasy in addition to the conventional Expressive, Retro, High Key, Sepia, High Dynamic, Soft Focus*, Dynamic Monochrome, Impressive Art, One Point Colour, Cross Process, Low Key, Toy Effect and Star Filter* and Miniature Effect** mode1. A number of these filters can also be applied on the self-portrait taken in ‘Self Shot’ mode.

For the first time integrated Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity offer a more flexible shooting experience and easy image sharing from an interchangeable lens camera.  After the initial setup, tablets and smartphones for remote shooting can be connected with a simple touch without having to re-enter authorisation details every time.

All cameras in the LUMIX G category feature Contrast AF for their focus system. Compared with the Phase difference AF system, the Contrast AF boasts higher accuracy especially in shooting with a bright lens and small ‘F’ (focal ratio) value. Light Speed AF makes it possible to capture fast-moving subjects clearly. Additionally, AF Tracking enables consecutive shooting to capture moving subject in sharp focus.
