In addition, the Nikon D810 has an ISO range of 32-51200, 1080/60p video recording, Expeed 4 image processing engine, 51-point auto-focus system, 5fps burst shooting at full resolution, and an improved LCD monitor (3.2-inch with 1299K dots).

The Nikon D810 will be available from mid-July onwards.

From delicate textures to high-speed movement, this astonishingly versatile 36.3-megapixel camera will exceed every expectation.

Offering incomparable image quality, high-speed performance, and Full HD video flexibility, the completely redesigned D810 surpasses its predecessor to deliver a new benchmark for high-resolution shooting. Its all-new FX-format sensor, ultra-wide ISO range, and EXPEED 4 image processor deliver unprecedented sharpness, impressive tonality, and reduced noise across all sensitivities. Flagship AF performance, a burst rate of up to 7 fps, and Full HD movie recording at 1080/60p enable any scene to be captured with rigorous precision, and Nikon’s Picture Control 2.0 provides exceptional in-camera image processing and optimisation flexibility. In the studio or on location, this is the ultimate imaging machine for serious photographers who want to realise their vision in exquisite detail.

Taking creative freedom to a whole new level, the D810 opens up spectacular new possibilities for high-resolution shooting. The camera’s brand new FX-format sensor offers a class-leading count of 36.3 megapixels, and is designed without an optical low-pass filter to deliver the ultimate in image detail in both stills and movies. In a first for a D-SLR, the D810’s ultra-wide native ISO range starts at ISO 64 for cleaner, better-defined images when shooting in bright light, and you can shoot at up to ISO 12800, or extend the range from 32 to 51200 ISO equivalent. Equipped with the same EXPEED 4 image processing engine as used in the flagship D4S, the D810’s overall performance gets a significant boost: image rendering and ISO capability is vastly improved in both stills and video, with sophisticated new algorithms enabling remarkable clarity and enhanced gradation with a tangible sense of depth across the entire sensitivity range.

Engineered to excel in any environment, the D810’s powerful high-speed capabilities deliver exceptional versatility, ensuring you can capture even the quickest, most unpredictable subjects in a big way. Faster continuous shooting speeds and the flagship Multi-CAM 3500FX 51-point AF system enable precise, uncompromised full-resolution images at up to 5 fps, plus the camera can shoot 15.3-MP images at up to 7 fps in DX crop mode. Nikon’s new Group Area AF mode offers fast acquisition and improved background isolation when shooting subjects that are comparatively small and close to a high-contrast or distracting background. A new shutter/mirror box mechanism reduces image shake for a steady viewfinder image with minimal blackout during high-speed shooting, and you can activate the new electronic front-curtain shutter to minimise internal vibrations and reduce the risk of micro-blur in subtle details. For faster image transfer and smoother post-production, Nikon’s RAW Size S file format delivers richly graded 12-bit uncompressed Nikon NEF files.

Shooting movie footage on a camera as powerful as the Nikon D810 is an enriching and liberating experience. A powerful and flexible tool that will satisfy even the most demanding cinematographers, the D810 records Full HD (1080p) movies at 50p/60p frame rates with markedly reduced noise, moiré, and false colour. The camera offers FX and DX sensor crop formats as well as clean HDMI out, plus simultaneous capture of full-resolution footage in-camera and on an external recorder. You can set sensitivity from ISO 64 all the way up to ISO 51200 equivalent in M mode, and the auto ISO function lets you configure the maximum ISO settings you want to work with. Nikon’s 3D noise reduction reduces random noise, distortion, and flicker when filming at high sensitivities. Zebra mode shows you on the camera monitor exactly where highlights are blown. Superior audio control improves sound recording and offers greater overall flexibility: a stereo microphone input and an audio out let you fine-tune audio levels in isolation both before and during recording, you can select the sound range (wide/voice), and wind noise can be reduced when recording with the built-in microphone.

No matter which kind of photography you focus on, the D810 will perfectly realise your creative vision. Whether shooting stills or video, Nikon’s newly introduced second-generation Picture Control System provides invaluable tools for before and after the shoot by offering total control over sharpening, contrast, brightness, hue, clarity, and saturation. For the ultimate freedom in post-production, the new Flat setting will retain all the details and preserve rich tonal information in both highlights and shadows; the new Clarity setting lets you precisely adjust contrast and differentiate fine structures. When shooting, the camera’s 8.0-cm (3.2-in.), 1229k-dot colour-tune monitor lets you push the colour balance and brightness in any direction to suit your personal workflow preference. The new Live View split-screen zoom makes it possible to check levelling and sharpness with complete precision and is ideal for architectural or product shot photography. Additional creative capabilities include unlimited continuous shooting that lets you capture countless JPEGs and produce spectacular light-trail photography.

Augmenting the D810’s spectacular imaging potential is the full power of Nikon’s total imaging system. The highest calibre optics are vital for such a high-megapixel camera and Nikon’s wide range of NIKKOR lenses will draw out the full potential of the D810’s 36.3-megapixel sensor with ease. With their exceptionally high resolving power, NIKKOR lenses meet the demands of photographers in every field. Also fully compatible with Nikon’s industry-leading Creative Lighting System, the D810 works with a range of versatile Nikon Speedlights for creative flash photography on- or off-camera.

Canon IMAGE Gateway Now Available in Malaysia

11 Jun

Consumers and photo enthusiasts of Canon cameras in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam now can join their counterparts in Singapore and Europe to store and share their images online via the Canon IMAGE Gateway (CIG).

Canon Marketing Malaysia today announced that its CIG service, a free online photo-sharing cloud storage site is expanding its reach across the South Asian and Southeast Asian regions. The CIG service also offers improved features which users will appreciate such as large photo storage space and easier sharing options that promotes interaction between users and visitors to the service.

“The Canon IMAGE Gateway provides our users with 10GB of free album storage space. This means, everyone can now snap all the pictures and videos they want and not worry about storage space. In addition, Canon IMAGE Gateway allows you to tag and rotate your pictures as well as to create or share your albums, amongst its many amazing features. Users can also instantly upload their pictures directly from their Canon cameras (featuring Wi-Fi function) to multiple social network platforms like Facebook and Twitter”, said Donny Ling, Director of Image Communications Products Division.

For each account, CIG users are presented with an impressive 10GB of free storage – an unparalleled size when compared with other providers. Loosely translated, this means that users are able to store about 13,000 4R-sized photos of 6 to 10 megapixels each, or between 6 to 24 hours of video at 1 to 4Mbs each in their storage library.

Managing your CIG account is also very easy and secure. Among other features, users can create photo albums from their photo library for easy sharing with family and friends, as well as print directly from their account using print solutions that are linked to Canon printers.

A host of options are available for users to set their preferred privacy settings. For example, users can configure the settings to allow or disallow others to download or print their photos, add comments, or add images to their albums. This gives them greater control over their shared photos and videos.

Users using smartphones running on iOS and Android 2.3 onwards are able to manage their account from anywhere and at anytime they want. Through the CIG’s simple interface, they can easily access their photo library and share high quality images in photo albums via email, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Google Drive, as well as upload videos onto YouTube. Furthermore, photos stored on CIG can also be viewed on Smart TVs that are quipped with Google TV.

Account holders using Canon cameras or camcorders with built-in Wi-Fi have an added advantage in using CIG – as it allows them to share their photos conveniently after saving them to an online photo album, besides being able to transfer images and videos straight to their computer via a wireless network. By selecting an option on the Image Sync Function, users can switch automatically between cloud-based servers and a specified computer on the same wireless network.  This allows users to save on time and energy as images uploaded to CIG can be downloaded to their computer automatically.

Users of selected Canon digital compact cameras, DSLRs and digital video are able to access the CIG free of charge at the links below. All they would have to do is register once with CIG to  enjoy its service. However, should an account be inactive for a year, the CIG’s automated maintenance facility will delete all data within the account. An email notification will be sent prior to that.

Canon Inc Celebrates 25th Anniversary of EOS-1-series Cameras

10 Jun

Canon Inc. today commemorated the 25th anniversary of the EOS-1 series, the flagship-model lineup of the Company’s EOS series of interchangeable-lens cameras, which debuted in 1989.

In 1987, Canon launched EOS, the world’s first AF (autofocus) single-lens reflex camera to employ a fully electronic mount system, using electrical signals to control such functions as autofocusing and aperture adjustment. Two years later, in 1989, the Company introduced the top-of-the-line professional-model EOS-1. Created to satisfy the advanced demands of professional photographers, the camera marked the inaugural model of Canon’s EOS-1 series. Based on the EOS concept of delivering automated performance in accordance with the will of the user, the EOS-1 featured cutting-edge technologies, class-leading levels of performance, high durability, robustness and reliability.

EOS-1D X_Anniversary
In 1994, as a growing number of professional photographers were making use of the autofocusing capabilities offered by cameras, Canon launched the EOS-1N, featuring an increased number of focusing points and increased predictive focusing when tracking moving subjects. Additionally, in 2000, the Company introduced the EOS-1V, equipped with 45-point high-density Area AF, which contributed to high-speed predictive AF of up to 9 frames per second. In this way, Canon has consistently launched flagship-model SLR cameras designed to satisfy the demands of professionals in step with the changing times.
Upon entering the digital era, Canon launched its first flagship-model professional digital SLR camera—the EOS-1D—in 2001, followed in 2002 by the EOS-1Ds, equipped with a full-frame 35mm sensor. Since then, the Company has reinforced its product lineup through efforts targeting enhanced image quality and continuous shooting performance.
In June 2012, Canon released the EOS-1D X, its latest flagship pro-model digital SLR camera, marking the EOS-1 series’ 13th model since the launch of the original EOS-1. The 1D X has garnered strong acclaim from professionals working in a wide range of fields, from photojournalism and sports coverage to commercial and nature photography.
Through the introduction of its powerful flagship-model EOS-1 series, incorporating cutting-edge technologies, and the expansion of these technologies and the functions they make possible, even to entry-level models, Canon continues aiming to enhance the value of its product lineup. In addition to its robust camera lineup, Canon contributes to developing the culture of photographic and video imaging though its efforts to fulfill the diverse needs of users.

Aprilia Riders 1-2 for Race 1 & 2 @ WSBK Sepang

08 Jun

The first ever World Superbike Championship round at Sepang bore the Aprilia signature, dominator in both races. Marco Melandri’s double win and Sylvain Guintoli’s double second place confirmed the supremacy demonstrated from the first practice laps of the weekend where the RSV4, including the “satellite” bike ridden by Toni Elias, showed just how much they liked the Malaysian track.

Race 1 had the two RSV4s ridden by Marco Melandri and Sylvain Guintoli pulling away at the front from the very first lap to battle for the win. It was the rider from Ravenna who brought it home in the end, skilfully bridging the gap that had been created after a crashing pileup in the first few turns. Once he had caught up with his team mate, Marco overtook him in one of the braking sections on the tenth lap, holding onto the lead until the chequered flag.

Race 2 changed in form but not in substance. A red flag in the third lap decreed a restart for a race now shortened to 10 laps and the starting grid based on the riders’ positions at the time the race had been stopped, which put the three RSV4s on the front row. Sylvain Guintoli took the lead straight away while Marco Melandri battled to chase down his team mate.

In the final lap the two Aprilia riders made a series of passes that were as spectacular as they were clean, with Marco Melandri prevailing after Sylvain’s last ditch attempt in the turn right before the finish line. It was a flying finish, the second one-two of the day and overall standings that were radically changed. This brings Melandri up to fifth place in the rider standings, whereas only 13 points separate Guintoli from current leader, Tom Sykes. Aprilia shortens the gap in the Manufacturer standings as well, where they lie in second place just 4 points from the top.

Marco Melandri:A double win that was just what we needed! Despite the difficulties we never gave up. We kept working and fighting. I had a good feeling straight away with my RSV4 here. The conditions in Race 1 were difficult but I managed to catch up to Sylvain. After overtaking him I set my own pace. I knew I could defend well in the braking sections and I was able to manage the race to the end. Race 2 was even harder because I also had to battle with the Kawasakis before catching Sylvain. In the last tap I thought I would give it a try. I had to give 100 percent down to the chequered flag. Anyway, all the riders deserve admiration today because riding in these conditions is not easy at all. I want to dedicate this win to Manu, her belly and all the guys on the Team. See you at Misano!”

Sylvain Guintoli: “In Race 1 I thought I had implemented my strategy well, but unfortunately toward the end Marco just had a really good pace and forced me into a few mistakes. I think I did better in Race 2, trying to pull the pin straight away, but toward the end Marco quite simply had just a little more. I tried to fight back and I think we gave anybody watching the race plenty of entertainment in that last lap! We earned some important points in the championship and showed that Aprilia is back out front with a great day. Now we’ll get some rest after this really tiring weekend.”
