A non-Biker Chick Promoting Harley-Davidson’s Street 750?

15 Apr

STREET1When it comes to gorgeous biker chicks, there are not many in Malaysia to choose from, and even less so if anyone is looking for a female celebrity that rides bike. Of course, there’s quite a number of female celebrities that own and ride superbikes, and good looking too. But they are just too pricey to be called upon to endorse a new motorcycle aimed at the young crowd.

So the next best option is to rely on a pretty local celebrity that clicks with the new generation to promote the bike. But she does not possess a motorcycling license nor ride a bike anywhere. Her celebrity status was achieved for hitting a million views from her own video loaded to YouTube.

That’s what greeted the assembled moto media that turned up for Harley-Davidson (H-D) of Kuala Lumpur’s unveiling of the Street 750 cruiser. For the sake of promotion, hype and photo shooting call for the assembled media to get the message across, does it really matter if the celebrity used rides a bike or otherwise?

After all, the crowd that H-D wanted her to promote to are the young females out there, many of whom may or may not readily have a motorcycle license but are most likely be inspired to take up motorcycling based on the endorsement by the celebrity.

Hence, the decision to deploy the Malaysian YouTube sensation, Elizabeth Tan, to do the honour of promoting the Harley-Davidson Street 750 for the younger generation, especially the females.

There’s no doubt the same age group of the male segment may be aghast at the decision of using a non-biker chick to endorse the Street 750 but Tan is not the only local celebrity hired to promote the motorcycle as H-D KL has also enlisted Afiq Iskandar, the founder of Tarik Jeans to do his part for that segment.

The Harley-Davidson Street 750 is priced at RM62,888 (including GST) with 2 years factory warranty and 3 years extended warranty or 80,000km (whichever comes first).

It is available in three exciting colours: Vivid Black, Black Denim and Fire Red.

Sunday Ride To Titi Kong With Z250 Street Fighter

05 Apr

Today is another gathering with the Sungai Long-based motorcycling group for the Kawasaki Z250 Street Fighter. As usual, the agenda for the day is a ride to Titi Kong via Hulu Langat town. The group had its RV Point at Shell Batu 9 in Cheras, and there were close to 15 bikers ready for the ride.

Initially, the idea was to ride to Titi Kong for breakfast but the venue was later changed to Kuala Klawang instead. Even so, we still had to ride pass Titi to get to Kuala Klawang via another exciting twisty road. The Z250 is the only 250cc bike in the group, with the majority being 600cc and 1,000cc naked sports and superbikes. However, the Z250 wasn’t the smallest capacity motorcycle for today’s ride as there was also a KTM Duke 200 in the midst.

After breakfast, we rode to Lenggeng town via Jalan Kuala Klawang-Seremban, passing by Hutan Lipur Lenggeng (Heritage Jungle of Lenggeng). Upon reaching the town, we rode towards Mantin via Route N34 which connected us to Route 1, which is the national trunk road for West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

From Route 1 we rode into the entrance towards the Mantin toll plaza for Lekas highway for our trip home to Kuala Lumpur and its surrounding areas. It was another adventurous ride with the Z250 Street Fighter, although it was down on speed when compared to the 600cc and 1,000cc bikes, the twisty roads along our ride made it possible for it to keep up with them.
